Our senior Tech, David, is a master of many trades, and never ceases to be a source of
amazement. Whether it is designing complex filtration systems, creating unique water
features, repairing any and all issues that arise, carving concrete, his talents are vast. We can
now add blacksmith to his repertoire.
A blacksmith works by heating pieces of wrought iron or steel until the metal becomes
soft enough for shaping with hand tools, such as a hammer, anvil or chisel. David has been able
to adapt and develop some creative techniques for replicating his and/or our client’s visions
into stunning masterpieces.
From creating aquarium racks and stands to handcrafting metal doors and unique
signage, there is no end to his talents. He even experimented with a new technique of
“braiding” heated metal for a unique door handle. There is no telling what else he will design
and come up with in the future. The possibilities are endless.
The South Texas Botanical Gardens is a beautiful local attraction that has so much to
offer all who visit. Their annual fundraiser Moonlight in the Gardens is a grand gala event.
Between fine dining, dancing and catching up with old friends, it is a wonderful opportunity to
give back and allow the Botanical Gardens to continue to flourish. This year Aquaria Service’s
own Denise Housler jumped in with a tremendous leap to assist in creating new attractions,
which in turn made it a spectacular event raising much needed funds for new Garden projects.
The highlights were a huge Silent Auction offering a large array of items, to a Dine N
Dash eatery delight of restaurant gift cards, a Grand Galaxy of luxury items and a Wine Pull
offering tasty treats, giving back had never been easier.
Of course, all of Aquaria agreed to help out. There was Denise (creativity, organization,
leadership), Teri (leadership, organization), David (creative woodworking skills), and Lori and
Katelyn (organization, e...
Ronald McDonald House is such an incredible organization helping children and their families.
The work that is done there is such an inspiration, that Aquaria Services is proud to be a part of helping bring some comfort and smiles to the children and their families. Little did we know how many football fans and future players were in the House.
It came to be time for their annual Casa De Amor and this year the guest of honor was Dallas Cowboys Legend, Emmitt Smith. Aquaria just knew they had to do something special to show him how much it meant having him visit the House. It was such a hit with the kids, we are leaving it “blue” for football season.
We have been working with Flexcrete for many years now on tons of projects and we love the results it provides our ponds and large water feature projects! Below is a flyer Flexcrete created showcasing a fountain we built at the Robstown City Hall. Learn more at Flexcrete.com
A homeowner expressed a desire to have a backyard pond installed. Her adult children wanted to surprise her and installed one while she was out of town one weekend. She was thrilled! Due diligence had been done in researching the design and construction. Unfortunately, sometimes the information that is available can offer conflicting opinions, causing choices to be made that result in unforeseen issues arising. This was the case, as the backyard pond soon developed crumbling foundation and water quality issues; cloudy, green water and low oxygen levels. This made it difficult to view the fish, lessening the enjoyment for the homeowner.
Luckily the homeowner called Aquaria Services. We were able to assess the situation and after discussion with the homeowner, come up with a feasible solution. This allowed Aquaria Services to create the low maintenance, backyard aquatic vision of her dreams....
The addition of decorative yard art is taking over neighborhood backyards all over.
People are looking for new and innovative ideas to dress up their yards and add touches of
whimsy. Backyard chickens have also become the latest craze. Everyone is jumping on the
bandwagon to be homesteaders. Aquaria Services came up with a new innovative way to
combine both of these crazes.
David, our resident Decorative Concrete Artisan, applied his numerous skills and with a
collaboration of creativity amongst the Aquaria team. After much “discussion” we were able to
come up with the final creation, a Trio of Decorative Concrete Mushrooms. Plumb lines were
run to chicken water nipples, hidden within the underside of the large Mushroom. This allowed
for the chickens to sip a cool drink as they passed by or rested in the shade the mushrooms
To add another element to the design, Glow Stones were imbedded within the
concrete tops. These Glow Stones are charged by the sun and create a nightly glo...
The seasons are changing and La Palmera is jumping at their chance to join. It was time to shake things up and get the Lil Kiddos excited about their play area. To allow for a surprise for All, Aquaria Services came in late one night to start their transformation.
We found a Goldfish Aquarium that had gotten a little dull. We left leaving a beautifully transformed GloFish Aquarium. The bright colors and glowing decos are a hit in the Children’s Area. Plenty of Smiles were to be found the day after the transformation and everyone has expressed their excitement over the change.
Over time issues can arise with any backyard pond. Aquaria had a homeowner with a
backyard pond that was losing water on a more continuous basis then evaporation warranted.
Aquaria Services assessed the situation on site and discovered the liner was the culprit. This
pond had been installed with a PVC plastic liner material, rather than an EPDM rubber liner.
This liner, while widely used, does carry unique issues. It can become brittle when exposed to
UV, easily tears and is not repairable.
The decision was made to replace the liner. At this time, the homeowner decided to
spruce up his pond. This was inclusive of reshaping the rockwork and repairing the waterfall in
the process. These additional enhancements went a long way to creating an aesthetic appeal
the homeowner will be able to enjoy for many years to come.
South Texas Botanical Gardens holds a special place in Aquaria Service’s hearts.
When their annual fundraiser, Moonlight in the Gardens came up, Aquaria Services dove at the chance to assist. In addition to Denise chairing the Silent Auction, we also came up with the idea of having a Wine Pull. Aquaria donated the design, construction and decoration of a Giant Hibiscus Flower with holes for the wine bottles.
It was a huge hit, with everyone having a blast and raising much needed funds for the South Texas Botanical Gardens.
